John Engler
John
was born in 1959 into a family of artists. His Father, Norman Carter
Engler, was considered to be one of the top graphic designers in the
Midwest during the 1950's and 1960's, designing logos ,book covers,
and package designs for Companies and corporations nationwide. Later
in life he began relief carving and watercolor painting. This of
course played a heavy influence on the direction and development of
John's artwork.
John's mother, Sis Engler,
was a talented and gifted portrait artist whose resume' included
drawing portraits of President Harry S. Truman's grandchildren. She
later developed an interest in watercolor, specializing in floral and
still lives. These are truly visual masterpieces. His uncle,
Peter Engler, has been a professional woodcarver for 50 years. He is
responsible for the resurgence of woodcarving in this country. Peter
opened the woodcarving shop at Silver Dollar City in Branson Missouri
in 1962. He has inspired and supported thousands of people to take up
the art of woodcarving during his career both professionally and as a
hobby. John began carving and painting while a student attending
Southwest Missouri State University. He was awarded a Bachelor Of
Fine Arts Degree in 1983. Since then he has owned and operated a
design studio and woodcarving business. Today John travels nationwide
teaching the art of relief carving and watercolor painting. In
addition , he accepts special orders and commission work.,
specializing in architectural carvings such as fireplace mantles and
doors. He has been married to his wife, Karen, for 27 years. They have
four beautiful children together. She and the children remain the true
love of his life
