Stu Martin
Stu's interest in art
started when he was a teenager. Over the years this interest
was expressed as drawing and painting landscapes. Discovering
wood carving and clay sculpture in 1976 was a major turning point in
his life. He has pursued a number of careers including
Fireman, Flight Instructor, and Corporate pilot. While working
as chief pilot for the Law Company in Wichita KS, he took up carving
as an outlet for his artistic expression. He carved as a hobby
for eight years until leaving his flying job in 1985. With the
support of his wife Dona, he has never looked back. Knowing
that good education is everything he has studied with the top
sculptors in the country including Lincoln Fox, Fritz White and
George Lundean.
IN 1990 Stu was picked up
by a leading Art Agency in Denver. His work was purchased by
all of the National Parks in the Western US plus numerous art
galleries and stores throughout the country. In addition to
selling his finished work he has been teaching seminars both in wood
and clay since 1985. These include the top carving rallies
including War Eagle AR, Rally on the Rio, Pharr TX, Silver Dollar
City, Branson MO, Texas Woodcarvers, Guild Kerrville TX, Michigan
Wood Carvers Association, Midland MI and Rendezvous', Branson MO
plus many individual clubs. During this time he has taught
over 600 seminars. Stu strives to make his work as
artistically pleasing as possible he designs all of his work in
plastilina clay. In his teaching he stresses proper anatomy
and creating a pleasing piece of work. Stu's collection
includes numerous Native American, Mountain men, Sea Captains and
Civil War busts. He also has a large selection of full figure
Santa's to choose from.
